Larger wheels, supportive handles and good brakes can make a real difference, particularly when using a rollator outdoors. Many models also include a seat, giving you somewhere to stop and rest when you need to.

Choosing the Right Rollator

Rollators can look fairly similar at first glance, but there can be a surprising difference between them.

One of the first things to consider is where you intend to use it.

 

A compact rollator may be ideal around shops, pavements and relatively smooth surfaces. If you regularly walk along rougher paths or uneven ground, larger wheels and a more substantial frame may provide a more comfortable experience.

 

Weight matters too, particularly if the rollator regularly needs to be folded and lifted into a car.

Then there is the person using it.

The height of the handles should be suitable, the brakes need to be easy to operate and the rollator should provide useful support without encouraging an uncomfortable walking position.

Rollators With Seats

Many four-wheeled rollators include a built-in seat.

 

For somebody who can walk reasonable distances but occasionally needs to stop and rest, this can be particularly useful. Some also include back supports and storage bags for carrying shopping or everyday belongings.

 

It's important to remember that a rollator seat is designed for resting while the rollator is stationary. A standard rollator should not be used to transport somebody while they are sitting on it unless the particular product has been specifically designed and approved for that purpose.

Indoor and Outdoor Rollators

Some rollators are particularly well suited to use around the home, with narrow frames and excellent manoeuvrability for getting around furniture and through doorways.

 

Others are designed with outdoor use in mind and may have larger wheels, more substantial tyres or additional comfort features.

 

There are also excellent all-rounders for people who want one rollator to cover most everyday situations.

If you're not sure which type you need, come and try a few. The differences are much easier to appreciate when you actually walk with them.

We keep a wide selection of mobility equipment and walking aids in stock, although with such a huge range available we can't keep absolutely everything on the premises.
