Choosing the Right Walking Stick

Walking sticks aren't one-size-fits-all. The correct height is particularly important, as a stick that's too high or too low can be uncomfortable and may not provide the support you're looking for.

You'll also find different handle shapes, materials and designs. Some people prefer a traditional curved handle, while others find an ergonomic or shaped handle more comfortable, particularly when using their walking stick regularly.

Many of our walking sticks are height adjustable, making it easier to find a comfortable position.

Folding Walking Sticks

A folding walking stick can be a great choice if you don't need support all the time or want something that's easier to take with you.

They can be folded down when they're not required, making them convenient for keeping in the car, taking on holiday or carrying while you're out for the day.

A folding stick can also make a useful second walking stick for someone who already has an everyday stick but wants a more portable option.

Walking Sticks for Everyday Use

For regular use, comfort and stability become particularly important.

As well as considering the height of the stick, it's worth thinking about the grip, its weight and the type of ferrule at the bottom. If you have reduced strength or dexterity in your hands, the shape of the handle can be especially important.

We also offer walking stick accessories and other walking aids, so you can find a solution that works for the way you actually live.

Stylish Walking Sticks & Canes

Needing a little support doesn't mean your walking stick has to look clinical.

Our range includes walking sticks and canes in different colours, patterns and finishes, providing plenty of choice for anyone who would prefer something with a little more personality.

For many people, a walking stick is something they carry every day, so there's nothing wrong with choosing one you actually like the look of.

Not Sure Which Walking Stick You Need?

If you're unsure which type or height of walking stick would be most suitable, come and see us.

Fen Mobility Centre is led by qualified Occupational Therapist Sara Cunnington, who has more than 17 years of experience helping people remain mobile, safe and independent.

Our team can help you look at the different options and find something that feels comfortable and provides the right level of support.

If a walking stick isn't providing enough support, we can also show you alternatives including walking frames, rollators and other walking aids.
